Remote access & alerts
Watch your cameras from anywhere
Reach your hub away from home through the built-in, end-to-end encrypted relay, with no port-forwarding and no router settings. Tailscale works too, if you use it.
Updated 17 October 2026
At home, your device talks to the hub over your Wi‑Fi. Away from home, Glimpo connects through the Glimpo relay, which is built in. There’s nothing to install or set up.
How it works
When the app can’t reach your hub directly, it goes through the relay. Everything between your device and the hub is end-to-end encrypted, so the relay only ever forwards ciphertext it can’t read. Live video still goes peer-to-peer whenever your network allows it.
The app switches automatically: on your home Wi‑Fi it uses the local address, and anywhere else it uses the relay. Live view, timeline, alerts’ snapshots and settings all work the same.
Already use Tailscale?
Tailscale is optional. If it’s on the hub computer and your device, signed in to the same Tailscale account, the hub detects it and shares its tailnet address with your paired devices. The app then uses Tailscale when it can, and the relay otherwise.
Why not port-forwarding?
Opening your hub or your cameras to the internet through your router exposes them to automated attacks. Camera botnets spread exactly this way. Glimpo never asks you to do it, and you shouldn’t: never port-forward 7700 or your cameras’ RTSP ports.
Is it secure?
Relay and Tailscale connections are both end-to-end encrypted. On top of that, every request to the hub needs a paired device token, and video links use 15-minute read-only tokens. Live video itself uses WebRTC, which is encrypted.
Watches
Phone alerts show on a paired watch wherever your phone is. Apps for Apple Watch and Wear OS are coming soon. See Watch apps.
